“Follow Jesus! O, You are the eternal loving God!” These were the last words Hans Nielsen Hauge said on his deathbed on the 29thof March 1824, exactly 200 years ago today. This evangelist and reformer triggered one of the major revivals Norway has ever known.
The Haugian revival not only brought people to faith, but also caused a major transformation in Norwegian economics, politics and education. Moreover, the revival launched Norway’s first missionary movement. Even until the first half of the twentieth century, Norway continued to send more missionaries in proportion to its population than any other nation.
In this special anniversary stage of European Journeys, we will explore the life and impact of Hans Nielsen Hauge.
