Most history books about the Reformation deal with the work of major theologians. Although men like Martin Luther or John Calvin played a crucial role in the Reformation, its growth cannot be attributed to them alone.
In this stage of European Journeys, we will explore how trade contributed to the success of the Reformation. Merchants were, in fact, among those who brought the doctrines Luther had recovered to Sweden. And this is clearly seen in the town of Söderköping.
Söderköping is an interesting place to visit for another reason. An ancient house in the old town testifies how Roman Catholics unsuccessfully reacted against the reformers.
